CranioSacral Therapy FAQ

What is CranioSacral Therapy?

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on treatment technique that evaluates the physiological functioning of the craniosacral system. This includes the brain and spinal cord, as well as, the cerebrospinal fluid that pumps through the spinal canal and membranes.

The pumping of this fluid creates a rhythm that can be felt throughout the body and it helps us to locate the areas that may need treatment. CranioSacral Therapy acts almost like a “reset” button to the central nervous system. It is usually very calming and relaxing to patients. It can be used to treat specific conditions and also for overall wellness.

I will work with you to facilitate healing and balance in your body. CranioSacral Therapy allows for physical, emotional, and spiritual changes.

What does a CST session look like?

During treatment, you will remain fully clothed and can lay comfortably on my treatment table or sit in a chair. For a pediatric patient, they can be treated in a parent's arms, on the floor while playing, or on the table. Babies can be treated while nursing, bottle feeding, playing, or sleeping.

The hands-on evaluation will start by assessing the craniosacral rhythm (felt from the movement of the cerebrospinal fluid) throughout your body, determine if restrictions or tension patterns are present, and work to release these areas using gentle hands-on techniques with my pressure no more than the weight of a nickle.

Our goal is to optimize the function of your central nervous system, which can result in improvements in your health and well-being and in various medical conditions that may be causing dysfunction and pain.

What can CST help with and who is it good for?

CranioSacral Therapy can help with so many things! It can help you as it releases restrictions and tension, improves overall alignment, helps with pain, decreases/eliminates scar tissue, improves the function of the body’s systems, and it can create a sense of calming, sensory regulation, and overall well-being.

CST is safe for individuals of all ages and I have worked with babies in-utero, 1 day old babies, children, adults, and the geriatric population, for a great variety of conditions with great success.
